Peter Pan was the first to adopt the process of churning the peanut butter to make it smoother and creamier. The first peanut butter was made from peanuts that were teamed instead of roasted which made for a not so tasty peanut butter. Brands such as Skippy and Peter Pan had to experiment with different techniques to perfect the peanut butter that we eat today. The reason that Proctor & Gamble sold these two highly popular brands was because the food industry was struggling for them and they decided to focus more on health and beauty products, which, in turn, raised the price of their stocks and bettered their company overall (Peale, Paragraph 2-5).Įven though Jif is probably the most well known name in peanut butter today, it was not one of the first peanut butters to be produced. Crisco was also part of the deal, which is a very popular product for most Americans. It was not only Jif that was sold to the J.M Smucker Company though. Smucker Company went for about $675 million in stock plus tax savings of $350 million. It makes me wonder how many jars are consumed every day! The deal between Procter & Gamble and the J.M. It’s hard to believe that behind those closed doors at the Jif Peanut Butter factory in Lexington, Kentucky that there are so many jars of peanut butter being produced every single day. Jif wasn’t always the most popular peanut butter brand in the United States. I will be looking into the changes brought about by this change in company and find out if it has any effect on the popularity of the Jif we have always loved. Smucker Company purchased the brand from Proctor & Gamble. Jif made its debut in 1958 with the company Proctor & Gamble, which is located in Cincinnati, Ohio. It could be interesting to see if these changes were for good or bad. The motto states, “With a name like Smucker’s, it has to be good.” I would like to look into how Jif started and what changes have been made throughout history. Smucker Company, which is also a very popular name among Americans. Jif has maintained a good name throughout the United States and it comes from the J.M. What makes Jif a tastier and better peanut butter rather than the store brand or the on-sale brand? Many people would say it’s the long history that Jif has had and the always-positive customer satisfaction that the company receives. I would like to explore what makes Jif one of the most popular peanut butter brands in the whole world. Do choosy moms really choose Jif? That’s a good question.
